Enjoy your life every day I’m a developer and architect for SQL Server designing the next generation of highly available database systems. I’ve worked for SQL Server team in the past 5 years on many of the SQL Server client drivers as well as the server side protocol layers. I like cycling, tennis, and playing keyboards (synths and piano) in my spare cycles. Main activities/projects @ SQL Server: |

I am a program manager in the SQL Programmability Team & working in Microsoft for last 6 years. My main areas of ownership include SQL, TSQL, Built-ins, and Types. I am also the primary representative for Microsoft in the ANSI SQL standards committee. I have over 15 years of experience building database applications ranging from OLTP, Data Warehouse, Data Mining, Web Analytics and Ad Targeting. I worked with SQL Server since 4.21 release and other database products before joining Microsoft. On the personal side, I am married and spend all of my spare time with my 3.5 year old son. I also like playing tennis, weight lifting, and listening to my classic rock collection like Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, & Dire Straits. |

A beginner’s mind is a Zen mind Mark is a Senior Product Manager at Microsoft on the Web Platform Team. Mark started writing software back in 1991 after graduating college with a degree in Finance. Mark pretty much taught himself everything he knows about software. His first application that was actually deployed in some business somewhere was an app using Microsoft Access 1.0 he wrote it to do his entire job. For him that was so much fun he quit his job in finance and accounting and started a whole new career in software. From there he went on to learn VB, SQL (Sybase then MSSQL), FoxPro, Btrieve, PowerBuilder, Java, C/C++, HTML, JavaScript, ASP, PHP, ASP.NET, on and on. Mark was actively working as a software engineer until about 6 years ago when he decided he wanted a change in career so he went from a technical role at Microsoft into marketing. Mark has been at Microsoft since 2000. Moved to Redmond from Southern California. His last job was at a dot-com and he worked at a number of dot-coms back in the late 90's. Over the last 10+ years Mark has worked in a bunch of groups here at Microsoft. The two most interesting is the Web Platform team he’s in now and before this he worked in the Bing Maps team as well so he’s a mapping guy too. |

I’m a Program Manager for the SQL Server Engine team and own the Engine Security component. This means that my current focus is in areas such as authentication, authorization, cryptography, audit, and data leak prevention. Prior to joining MS, I spent a number of years working as a developer for a competing database product, also working in the security area. When I’m not worrying about protecting user data or regulatory compliance, I’m usually out biking, kayaking, skiing, playing volleyball, or traveling. I also have an uncanny knack for getting out of a country right before the onset of social or political turmoil. |
